Dennis A. Ruth

Dennis A. Ruth, 73, of Galion, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion.

Dennis was born in Crestline on Oct. 3, 1942 to the late George and Orthora (Bowman) Ruth. He married Letisha J. (Bedson) Ruth on June 12, 1965 and she survives him.

He was a member of the Class of 1960 of Galion High School. He had been an employee of ITT North, Galion, for 30 years and had retired after 15 years from Caraustar, Bucyrus. Dennis was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, North Bloomfield Township, Morrow County. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Galion Lodge #414 F.&A.M. 32nd Degree, Galion, Order of Eastern Star, Upper Sandusky, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #303, Galion. Dennis ran the Moose Car Show for the last four years. He enjoyed racing with his favorite NASCAR driver being Tony Stewart, traveling with ARCA Racing, and helping with sprint cars. His other hobbies included watching sports and bowling. Dennis loved any activity his grandchildren were involved in; he even fished with them when he didn’t like to fish.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Dennis (and Angela) Ruth, of Galion, his daughter Denise Wingfield, of Pfafftown, North Carolina, his five grandchildren Joshua and Terri Wingfield, serving in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii, Emma Wingfield, of Durham, North Carolina, Lydia Wingfield, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dalton Ruth, of Galion and Dylan Ruth, of Galion, and a special niece Lori Zumbro, of Galion.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Ruth.

Friends may call Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. A Masonic Service and Eastern Star Service will be Tuesday at 7 pm. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, of Galion, with Pastor Walt Keib officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army National Guard and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

The Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Dennis A. Ruth.
