Daniel C. Mast

Daniel C. Mast, 69, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away surrounded by his family on Jan. 8, 2016, at Kingston of Ashland following an extended illness. He was born on July 5, 1946, in Ashland, to Robert and Elizabeth (Miller) Mast. 

Daniel was active, and involved in various activities, especially local sports. He ran track for Ashland High School and held records for a number of years. He played both volleyball and church league softball in his adult life and also would officiate volleyball matches for various local schools. He was an avid Sprint car race fan, and would travel regularly to Florida and Iowa to watch the races. Daniel proudly served in the Navy for four years during the Vietnam era. Upon his return home, he went to work for Timken of Ashland. He transferred to the Bucyrus plant and retired in 2008 after 39 years. He could often be found working on and fixing everything around the house, especially the cars. 

Daniel is survived by his wife, Yolanda (Shopbell) Mast whom he married April 3, 1971; his children, Angela Marquis (Mike Workman) and Daniel A. Mast; his grandchildren, Haley and Zada Marquis, and Cade and Gracie Mast. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Mast and Elizabeth Cecelia (Miller) Mast; and his brother and best friend, Dennis “Butch” Mast. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, from 4-8 p.m., at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue. An additional hour of visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan.  13, 2016, prior to the service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Ashland County Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to OhioHealth Hospice.
