Cordis Clevenger Sr.

Cordis Clevenger Sr., 84, of Galion, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at Signature Healthcare, Galion, after an extended illness.

Cordis was born in Sandy Hook, Kentucky on Feb. 1, 1932 to the late Add and Stella (Fraley) Wilson Clevenger. He married Betty L. Landin on Feb. 25, 1952 and she survives him.

Cordis was a self-employed contractor working over 50 years and loved every minute. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Scarborough Post 243, Galion.

Cordis loved playing cards at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #630, Galion. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children: Jack and Linda Clevenger, of Tiro, the twins, Judy and Bud Breault, of Ontario, John and Lisa Clevenger, of Galion, Debbie and Eric Guetig, of Goshen, Kentucky, Cordis and Roseann Clevenger Jr., of Galion, Tom and Diane Clevenger, of Galion, Tami and James Clayton, of Nashville, Tennessee, Kathie and David Hursh, of Mt. Vernon; his brothers and sisters; Denzil and Donna Lee Clevenger, Troy and Paula Clevenger, Avis and William Hoffman, and Freda Sandquist, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a special cousin William “Desmal” Fraley.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Linda Clevenger, his son, Lonnie Clevenger, his grandson, Jerame Clevenger, his brothers and sisters; Gus Wilson, Garland Clevenger, Sylvan Clevenger, Albert Clevenger, Addie Heath, Cecil Clevenger, Raymond Clevenger, Edgar Clevenger, Bina Clevenger, Edna Clevenger, Bess Clevenger, Beacher Clevenger, Bill Clevenger and Avenell Phillmore.

Friends may call Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Burial will follow in Blooming Grove Cemetery, Blooming Grove. Full military honors will be given at the graveside by the U.S. Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
