Charlotte Gilliland

BELLVILLE: Charlotte Ann Gilliland passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 in her home surrounded by her family. She was 83.

She was born November 1, 1932 to parents Charles & Lula (Hooker) Paul in Columbus. After Charlotte was graduated from Linden McKinley High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Capital University. She went on to study at Ohio State University, Miami University, Ashland University and Bowling Green University.

On September 8, 1956, she married Louis Gilliland and they spent 59 wonderful years together.

Charlotte began her teaching career at Nevada High School in Nevada, Ohio. From there she went to Butler High School, then Clear Fork High School where she ended her 34 years of teaching. After retiring she substituted at Clear Fork, Lucas, Perrysville and Loudonville.

She was a former member of the Richland County Business Teacher Association where she was president. She was also a member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Butler Lioness and Secretary for the Butler Clear Fork Adult Center. She was Business Teacher of the year for the RCBTA as well as president of the Butler Mothers Club. She was also treasurer of the CFVTA where she was awarded the Linda Sharp award two years in a row.

Charlotte was a former Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother and 4H Leader.

She is survived by her husband Louis Gilliland; son Michael Gilliland of Bellville; daughters Deborah (Brian) Jessen of Bellville and Judy Burton of Mansfield; grandchildren Rick Burton, Kim Hager and Jasmine Estes; 7 great- grandchildren; sister-in-law Lois Stuckey and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Ashley Estes.

The Gilliland family will receive friends Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where a memorial service honoring Charlotte’s life will begin immediately at 1 p.m. Pastor Ken Kinley will officiate.

Contributions in Charlotte’s memory to Butler Clear Fork Adult Center may be made at the funeral home.
