Charles Keyes

Charles “Charlie” E. Keyes, 83, of Galion, died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehab, Galion.

Charlie was born in Rose Hill, VA on October 11, 1932 to the late Dan S. and Bendy (Pace) Keyes. He married the former Naomi M. Girton on July 14, 1968 and she preceded him in death on December 31, 2014.

Charlie was raised by his aunt Jenny Pace Smith and grandmother, Fannie Pace. His mother, Bendy, died when he was nine months old. Charlie was employed by General Motors, Ontario Plant until retirement in 1995. He was a life member of AMVETS Post #1979, Galion, Loyal Order of Moose #303, Galion, VFW, Post #79, Galion, American Legion Post 243, Galion, and the Galion Elks Lodge. Charlie served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. He enjoyed baseball, football, golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his children: John (Debbie) Goodwin, Mansfield, Nancy (Lloyd) Fulton, Crestline, one brother, Dan (Jackie) Keyes, Maryland, grandchildren; Charles (Erica) Goodwin, Sheri Goodwin, John Gray, (Jessica), Tim (Jenny) Gray, Mike Gray, Dustin (Gracie) Gray, great-grandchildren; McKayla Goodwin, Mason Goodwin, Bethany Allen, Emily Kilgore, Trevor Gray, Hunter Gray, Allen Gray, Brody Gray, Trenton Gray, Caleb Gray, Weston Gray, Lillian Gray, McKenna Slusher, great-great grandson, Jayden Allen, step-grandchildren; Greg Fraley, Chad Fraley, Monica Dees, Lloyd Fulton III, step great-grandchildren; Austin Fraley, Dylan Fraley, Brandi Williams and Aaron Dees.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Charlotte Goodwin, his son-in-law, Wayne Gray, his four sisters, Patty Markum, Virginia Cheek, Veda, Evelyn Nelson, his four brothers; Claude Keyes, Ottis Keyes, Curtis Keyes, Talmadge Dean Keyes

Friends may call Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13 at Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, conducted by Dennis Easterday. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline. Full military honors will be given at the funeral home by the U.S. Air Force and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
