Charles G. Taylor, 92, of Mansfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, July 31, 2016.
Charles was born on May 16, 1924 in Henderson, Kentucky, to William E. and Mallie (Peters) Taylor. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, in which he obtained the Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star, and served with the Merrill Marauders.
He married Bertilla M. Thomas on Aug. 27, 1953, and she passed away on Dec. 14, 1999. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of employment, and was a member of the NRA and UAW.
He is survived by two children, Charles Dwaine (Ronita) Taylor and Teri (Jim) Plascak; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Tiffany, Zachary, Heather, Joseph, Jessie, Chandra, Ashton, and Kaeli; and several great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife and parents, Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Rita Ann (Taylor) Winbigler; six siblings, William, Elmer, Marie, Glendora, Leroy, and Helen; one half-sister, Doris; and foster parents, Ottie and Nettie Chumney.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Steven Hodges officiating. Burial will take place at Franklin Church Cemetery with Military Honors being performed by R.C. Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
