Charles C. Zents, 88, of Mansfield, passed away early Monday morning, Dec. 3, 2018, at his home.
He was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Carlos Noble Zents and Erma Lillian (Sigler) Zents.
He served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he was the owner/operator of Zents Radio and TV. Then he worked at Mansfield Typewriter (MT Business Technologies) for 24 years and as a custodian at St. Matthew Lutheran Church for six years; St. Paul Lutheran Church for 11 years; and finally, at Ontario Christian Fellowship for eight years. Charles was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since April 1994. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed baking and eating ice cream.
He is survived by a son-in-law, Wayne Ward; daughter, Debra (David) Catlett Friend; four grandchildren, Leslie Ward (Roger Olar), Tiffany (George) Goad, Amber (Tim) O'Bryant and Daniel (Ashlee) Catlett; nine great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Cameron, Hayley, George, Alexis, Victoria, LeighAnn, Lucas and Natalee; one niece, Margo; and one nephew, Mike.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Clara Gurtz Zents on April 29, 2015; daughter, Diane Ward; son, Daniel Zents; grandson, Joshua Catlett; son-in-law, Greg Catlett; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Dave Edgerton.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Jonathan Stufft will be held on Saturday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2010 Park Avenue West, at 2:00 p.m. with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to OhioHealth Hospice or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
