Chalmer Bowman, 74, formerly of East Thrush Avenue, Crestline, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014 at Galion Pointe Nursing Home, Galion, where he has lived for the past three years.

Chalmer was born in Morehead, KY on June 25, 1940 to the late Clifford and Vada (Alfrey) Bowman.

Chalmer was a man who loved to hunt and was an avid fisherman. He especially loved to spend time on his boat fishing Lake Erie. He put in to the lake at several favorite spots, depending on the time of year and what fish he was looking to catch.  Not many things were more important than following those pastimes. His life was dramatically altered when he suffered a brain aneurism at age 44. Although dealing with mobility issues, he continued to live independently, getting where he needed to be with his motorized scooter.

He is survived by his two sons and two daughters: Dale Bowman, Crestline, Terry Allen and Daphne Bowman, Galion, Pamela Sue Nachel and Geoff MacKenzie, Englewood , FL, Julie Renee and Rocky Ellis, Logansport, IN, his nine grandchildren: Capt. Joshua L. Bowman, Stationed with the U.S. Air Force in California, and currently serving his country overseas, Terry A. Bowman, Jr. Crestline, Mackenzie Bowman, Galion, Jessica and J.P. Altman, Dyer, IN, Adam and Stephanie Connor, Chicago, IL, Joseph Connor, Dyer, IN, Christie Brown, Logansport, IN, James “Jamie” and Alicia Brown, III, Logansport, IN Jessika Ellis and Seth Lynch, Cookeville, TN, his eleven great-grandchildren, his three brothers and his two sisters: William L. and Nancy Bowman, Galion, Ronnie and Shirley Bowman, Columbus, Clay and Ruth Bowman, Galion, Barbara Bowman, Crestline, and Bonnie Watson, Crestline.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers Virgil and Earl Bowman and his brother-in-law Lowell Bowman

The family will receive friends after 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 223 West Main Street, Crestline. A Memorial Service honoring the life of Chalmer Bowman will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bill Fox officiating.
