Billy P. Bryant, 83, of Ashland, died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at home, surrounded by family.
Billy was born on May 12, 1932, in Grahn, Kentucky, to Cecil and Stella (Duncan) Bryant. He served two terms in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He joined the Army at 16, after convincing the recruiter he was ready to serve.
He married Phyllis Ann Salyers on June 28, 1958. He loved Phyllis and made sure everyone knew it. He made his love for his children very evident and never failed to mention his pride in his family. He retired from AK Steel in January, 1992 after 36 years.
He attended Hannah Road Church of God, where he taught Sunday School. Billy loved the Lord with all his heart and was a good and faithful servant.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis; daughters,, Teresa (Harry) Winfrey, of Bellville, and Tammy (Gary) Hershey, of Columbus; sons Bill (Tammy) Bryant, of Columbus, and Jonathan (Tracey) Bryant of Beavercreek, Ohio; grandchildren, Kerry (Hollis) Davis, Alex and Chase Winfrey, Sam and Jack Hershey, Cecilia, Andrew and David, Bryant, Gabbie, Taylor and Aly Bryant; Sisters, Garnet Stamper and Alberta (Tommy) Callihan, of Kentucky, and Barbara (James) James, of Johnsville.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pauline Nolen, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Stamper.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015 at the funeral home, with Pastor Ferlie Yates officiating. Burial will follow at Imhoff Cemetery, Ashland, Ohio.
