Benjamin David Gearhart, 26, of Shelby, died unexpectedly, Friday, June 17, 2016 in Tooele, Utah.

Ben was born Aug. 4, 1989 in Shelby. He attended Shelby City Schools and had been employed at Shelby Welded Tube.

Ben was a serious follower and participant in motorsports. He raced in the WERA and AMA clubs winning a regional championship and many other podium places. He loved riding his numerous motorcycles and logged many, many miles on them, both at the track and with his dad.

Ben was a talented guitar player, having played in the praise band at church, and loved all kinds of music. Ben was also gifted in mechanical drawing and designed motorcycle parts among other things. He had a passion for military aircrafts and, as a teenager, studied them endlessly.

He enjoyed all the family pets that came into his life and had a beautiful smile. Ben was adored by his family who will miss him very much.

Survivors include: his mother and step father: Janis and Randy Howman, of Crestline; his father and step mother: Woody and Bev Gearhart, of Tennessee; a half-brother: Seth Howman, of Crestline; a half-sister: Elizabeth Howman, of Galion; two step brothers: Randy Howman II and Brent Cope; two step sisters: Alaina Winans and Brooke Steagall; maternal grandparents: David and Judy Kaylor, of Tiro; step grandmother: Norma Jean Howman, of Shelby; and aunts, uncles, and other relatives.Ā 

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Main St. Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jason Nelson, Pastor of Shelby Alliance Church, officiating.
