Arvinia Thomas

Arvania (Jones) Thomas, 96, of Shelby, died Thursday afternoon, Aug. 4, 2016 at Crestwood Care Center.

Born Sept. 1, 1919 in Morehead, Kentucky to Garcie and Rella (Hoskins) Jones, Arvania lived in Shelby since 1941. She worked at Quanex in Shelby and was a member of the VFW, Eagles and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo but most of all loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur (Rosemary) Littleton, of Ashland, and Robert Thomas, of Shelby; two daughters, Joanne (Tom) Thompson, of Shelby, and Betty Littleton, of Warrenton, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Trevor Thomas, of Johnstown, Taylor Thomas, of Lexington, Roseann Griffith, of Greenwich, Andrea Robson, of Marengo, Alan Littleton, of Senatobia, Mississippi, Thomas Thompson, of Shelby, Joy McGuire, of Bucyrus, and Debra Ramey, of Shelby; 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Thomas; six brothers, Hubert, Delbert, Trubie, Jesse, Beacher and Willard Jones; four sisters, Effie Jones, Ida Wallace, Zelda Lambert and Hazel Lacey.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2016 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby with Reverend Shirley Adkins officiating. Internment will be held in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
