Arlene J. Songer

Arlene J. Songer, 65, of Galion, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion.

Arlene was born in Shelby on Jan. 19, 1952 to the late Marlin E. Cole and Effie E. (Ziegler) Cole, Ontario. She married Herbert Songer on Aug. 6, 1972 and he survives her.

Arlene has lived in Galion the past 14 years. Arlene was the center of her family. She was a wonderful homemaker and made every family get together and holiday special.

Arlene's greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren and supporting her seven grandchildren in their many activities. She will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Arlene loved the Lord and was a member of the Life Point Church in Plymouth.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Matthew and Angela Songer, of Crestline, Michael and Casey Songer, of Crestline, and Kendra and Brett Vernon, of Grand Haven, Michigan; her mother, Effie Cole; her seven grandchildren, Megan Songer, Claire Songer, Brooke Songer, Austin Silverwood, Faith Songer, Molly Vernon, and Blake Vernon; her twin sister, Ardella and William Waldbauer of Tiffin; her brother, Rodney and Kathy Cole of Crestline; her special aunt and uncle, Pat and Dan Tackett, of Shelby; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marlin Cole.

Friends may call Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Richard Hurles officiating. Burial will follow in Tiro-Oakwood Cemetery, Tiro.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
