Alvin F. Waltz

Alvin F. Waltz, 101, of Bellville passed away Tuesday evening February 3, 2015 in Colonial Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.

The son of David and Gwendlyn (Edwards) Waltz, Alvin was born April 5, 1913 in Ledford, Illinois.

An Army veteran, Alvin served in the European Theater at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe during WWII. An American patriot, he was honorably discharged in October of 1945. Just nine days after his discharge, Alvin married Betty Jo Bartram on October 12, 1945. The two celebrated 69 years of marriage. In 1948 Alvin and his family moved from West Virginia to Mansfield.

For 16 years he worked for Mansfield Plumbing Products and retired in 1976.

He was a member of Newville Baptist Church and VFW Post #8586 Perrysville.

Alvin enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and camping. He also loved to travel with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty Jo Waltz of Bellville; daughter Sherry (Earl) Smith and son Franklin (Deborah) Waltz all of Bellville; grandchildren Rich (Lisa) Smith, Dale (Sherry) Smith, Michelle (Jeff) Brokaw, Bambi (Ron) Rigney, Levi (Mandy) Waltz, and Natasha Waltz; 12 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister Beatrice Stafford and brother Bill Waltz; sisters-in-law Jeanette Waltz, Garnet Huff, Julia Jones; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Alvin was preceded in death by his brothers Joe, Gene, Bob, John, and Jim Waltz and sisters Bernice Carter, Lola Irwin, and Mary Belle Bonell.

The family will receive friends Friday February 6, 2015 from 1-3 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will immediately begin at 3 p.m. Pastor Patrick Bailey will officiate. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #535, and burial will follow in Zion Four Corners Cemetery near Butler.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the Clear Fork/Butler Adult Life Center or VFW Post #8586 Perrysville may be made through the funeral home.
