NORWALK – A Norwalk woman was killed and a man seriously injured Monday night in a Huron County motorcycle crash, according to the Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Sarah A. Downing, 32, of Benedict Avenue in Norwalk, was a passenger on the motorcycle being operated by Jonathon Downing. Ms. Downing was ejected from the motorcycle. She was not wearing a helmet and received fatal injuries as a result of the crash, the Patrol stated.

Jonathon D. Downing, 31, of Benedict Avenue in Norwalk, was operating a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Drake Road. The Patrol stated that he failed to negotiate a curve and his motorcycle overturned before traveling off the right side. Mr. Downing was ejected from the motorcycle.

He was not wearing a helmet and he received serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported by North Central EMS to Fisher Titus Medical Center.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Norwalk Post is investigating the one-vehicle crash, which occurred at approximately 7:26 p.m., on Drake Road near Hill Road in Ridgefield Township.

Alcohol use and unsafe speed are suspected factors in the crash, the Patrol reported.

Assisting agencies include Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Huron River Joint Fire District, North Central EMS, The Huron County Coroner’s Officer, and Interstate Towing.
