TROY TOWNSHIP -- A 60-year-old West Salem man was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday evening, according to the Ashland Post of the State Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at 7:52 p.m. on Township Road 350, east of Township Road 791, in Ashland County, the patrol said.

Robert R Sturgill Jr. was eastbound on Township Road 350, operating a 2013 Harley Davidson FLTRX motorcycle. Troopers said Sturgill failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road to the left, striking a utility pole.

Sturgill was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the patrol.

A helmet was located at the scene, but it is unknown at this time if it was being worn at the time of the crash, troopers said.

Township Road 350 was closed for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was being investigated, according to the patrol.

Other agencies assisting at the crash scene were the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Ruggles / Troy EMS and the Ashland County Coroner’s Office.

The crash is currently under investigation.
