UPDATE: 4:39 p.m. Mansfield Police report Ricky Porter has turned himself in
MANSFIELD -- A Mansfield woman is in a local hospital and a man in custody for feloneous assault, according to a Mansfield Police press release.
Police say 55-year-old Ricky Porter turned himself in on Tuesday afternoon after an incident at 354 Altamont Ave.
"Mr. Porter was identified as the person responsible for the attack by witnesses at the scene, one of whom tried to intervene and assist the victim, most likely preventing further injury," Mansfield Police Capt. Shari Robertson said. "Mr. Porter has turned himself in to authorities and is no longer being sought."
Police say they were called to the scene around 11:59 p.m., and while en route to the location officers were advised that a female had been stabbed. Upon arrival, patrol officers found the victim, 46-year-old Cindy Powell, laying in the street suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Several individuals who witnessed the attack were around her and identified the attacker as Porter. Powell was transported to an area hospital for treatment and remains in their care.
Officers were unable to locate Porter who had fled the scene on foot prior to their arrival. A felony warrant for “Felonious Assault” was issued for his arrest in reference to this attack.
