RUGGLES TOWNSHIP -- Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday involving a Harley Davidson motorcycle that occurred on U.S. Route 250, just north of Mile Post 4. at approximately 11:11 p.m.
A 2013 Harley Davidson was northbound on U.S. 250 when it lost control, went off the left side of the roadway and struck a wire fence. The motorcycle then overturned and both occupants were ejected.
The passenger of the Harley Davidson, Tammy M. Stackhouse, 47, from Greenwhich, was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. The driver of the motorcycle, Charles R. Hand II, 44, from Ashland, was transported to University Hospital Samaritan Medical Center prior to being air lifted to Cleveland Metro with life-threatening injuries.
U.S. 250 was closed for approximately three hours. Traffic was detoured while the roadway was closed by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Other agencies assisting at the crash scene were: Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland Police Department, Savannah Fire Department, Ruggles-Troy Fire Department, ODOT and Fireland’s EMS.
Neither occupant of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors, the patrol said. The crash is still currently under investigation.
