WAYNE TOWNSHIP – Two Wooster residents were killed early Saturday morning after a single-vehicle crash in Wayne Township of Wayne County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on Mechanicsburg Road (County Road 22) north of Varns Road (Township Road 222) at approximately 1:38 a.m. Aaron W. Torrence, 38, of Wooster, and Tiffany E. Curtiss, 39, of Wooster were both pronouncd dead at the scene.

According to the Patrol, Torrence was operating a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Mechanicsburg Road. Curtiss was the front-seat passenger. Torrence drove across the centerline into the northbound lane of Mechanicsburg Road, overcorrected and drove off the west side of the road.

The Jeep struck a guardrail and went airborne striking an embankment and overturning. The Jeep came to rest on Varnes Road. Torrence and Curtiss were not wearing safety belts and were ejected from the Jeep.

The Wayne County Coroner's Office, Wooster Fire Department, Wooster City Police Department, OSHP Reconstruction Unit, and Troopers from the Wooster Patrol Post were all called to the scene.

This is the third fatal traffic crash in Wayne County in 2020.
