CANTON – U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott and Stark County Sheriff Maier have announce the conclusion of Operation Summer Sweep which was conducted in the Canton area last week.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, along with its partner agencies arrested 30 individuals during last week’s operation. The operation took place right after Labor Day in response to a spike in violence over the summer months in the Canton area.
Task force divisions from the Akron and Mansfield areas assisted in the operation.
“Operations such as this are important to keeping our communities safe," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated. "Although our task force operates 365 days a year doing targeted operations such as this works to net dozens of criminals who otherwise may remain free.”
Members of the task force targeted individuals wanted in and around the Canton area for violent crimes and specifically domestic violence. During the operation a stolen firearm was recovered and the person in possession of that firearm was charged with a new crime. Also, a stolen vehicle was also located in the possession of one of the wanted fugitives. Investigation into that case has been turned over to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.
“Removing violent fugitives from our community in cooperation with our partner agencies is a testament to our commitment for a safer Stark County,” Stark County Sheriff George Maier said.
