MANSFIELD -- Richland County commissioners plan to begin offering their meetings online via the Zoom platform within the next several weeks.
During a 2021 reorganization meeting Monday, commissioners also said they would conduct an evening meeting, breaking from their standard sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
"I think we should do that," Commissioner Tony Vero said. "Once the boardroom is reconfigured and we can livestream, why don't we get a night meeting on the schedule?"
Fellow commissioners Darrell Banks and Cliff Mears agreed. The former Mansfield City Council president, Mears presided over evening livestreamed meetings since the COVID-19 pandemic reached Ohio in March 2020.
Commissioners said they would try to avoid scheduling an evening session against Mansfield City Council sessions, conducted on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
Vero said the commissioners' boardroom should be configured to better facilitate online meetings in the next four to six weeks. The makeover includes new furniture, necessary electrical outlets and internet wiring.
Decisions related to those room changes will be discussed during the commissioners' meeting Tuesday morning.
Also on Monday, Banks was selected as the board chairman for 2021 with Vero selected as vice chair. Stacey Crall was again selected clerk and Belinda Fulton as assistant clerk.
Commissioners also divided up guidance of departments under their purview.
Banks will oversee human resources, maintenance and Dayspring. Vero will be over the Child Support Enforcement Agency, the dog warden, Job & Family Services and the commissioners' staff. Mears will handle the county emergency management agency, building codes and wastewater management.
