ONTARIO -- Ontario's hydrant flushing schedule will be extended into the second and third weeks of August.
Annual hydrant flushing is critical to ensure the continued operation and reliability of the city’s hydrants, according to Springfield Township Fire Department Capt. Michael Mullins.
Flushing will normally be done between the hours of 0730 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Some discoloration of water may occur during flushing, due to sediments and particulates in the water mains that are disturbed during the flushing process.
Because of this, residents are strongly advised not to do laundry during these hours as this could lead to discoloration of clothes. However, the water is still safe to drink.
The water department has special detergent available to remove rust stains from clothing if they are inadvertently soiled.
Questions about the flushing program can be addressed to the Ontario Water Dept. at 419-529-3815, or the Fire Dept. at 419-529-5512.
Flushing is planned Aug. 12-16 along Park Avenue West (Home Road to Ohio 314) and Aug. 19-23 along Lexington-Springmill Road, south from Kingston to north of Buckeye Village Apartments.
