MANSFIELD -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Shelby Police Department, announced Saturday morning that an OVI checkpoint will be set up at 8 p.m. tonight (Aug. 24) on Ohio 39 at mile post 5 in Richland County.
The checkpoint will then be moved after a couple of hours to Mansfield and located on Park Avenue West between Trimble Road and Home Road with the assistance of the Mansfield Police Department.
The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant dollars, is planned to deter and interdict impaired drivers. The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes.
Those who plan to consume alcohol should designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before drinking. Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.
