MANSFIELD – Alan Mitchell will be the first speaker for the upcoming AALI Speaks event on Wednesday, Jan. 12, from noon to 1 p.m.

Mitchell is the Community Development and Housing Manager for the North End Community Improvement Collaborative. He is a social entrepreneur who helps to start or strengthen businesses that advance transformational social change.

Mitchell spends much of his free time as the owner and principal consultant at Social Enterprise Solutions helping to strengthen non-profits and benefit corporations around the region.

For the past 17 years, since leaving active duty as a United States Naval linguist, he has been a community development professional.

The scope of his work has been broad, but it’s all been about service: Alan served the United States Department of Commerce as a Regional Technician during the 2020 census. He served the Richland County Foundation as a Community Investment Officer.

Mitchell served the community of Oberlin as the Executive Director of Zion Community Development Corporation. He served Lorain County as a Program Manager for Oberlin Community Services. He served multiple Ohio communities as Dean of Students at The Arts Academy Public charter schools.

Mitchell joined the NECIC team at the end of 2021 to help improve the quality of life and economic landscape of the North-End community. His experience with Zion CDC building and remodeling homes for low to moderate income residents of Oberlin is one that he is proud of and excited about duplicating here.

"Alan Mitchell will shine a light on affordable housing and community development in the North End," organizers stated. "Make sure to join us on Wednesday, Jan. 12 from noon to 1 p.m. The event will be at NECIC, 134 N Main St, Mansfield 44902."
