The Mansfield Board of Control on Tuesday morning approved spending $118,626.32 to purchase two new police cruisers, an action that will still require City Council's approval.

MANSFIELD -- A motorcyclist was killed and a juvenile was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after a collision with a truck on Park Avenue West, according to Mansfield police Capt. Shari Robertson.

Robertson said a male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after a truck-motorbike crash near 446 Park Ave. West occurred at 4:38 p.m., near the site of the former Mansfield YMCA.

"The adult was not wearing a helmet," Robertson said.

The juvenile passenger, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital with "non-life threatening injuries," she added.

Investigators were still on the scene at the time of publication.

Robertson said the department will have more information available Wednesday.

It's the third motorcycle accident and second fatality in the last few days. In addition, a 12-year-old Shelby girl was killed last weekend when the bicycle she was riding collided with a vehicle.
