U.S. Flag

MANSFIELD -- Richland County U.S. Army veteran George F. McFarland will be honored with a flag raising on Thursday, June 8 in front of the Richland County courthouse at 6 p.m. to honor deceased 

McFarland served in the U.S. Army from May 17, 1945 to July 17, 1946. He received the rank of a Tech 5. McFarland received the World War 11 Victory Ribbon and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany.)

McFarland retired in 1975 from Westinghouse Corp after 38 1/2 years. He belonged to the Little Washington Congregational Church where he served as head usher for 47 years.

The honored veteran’s flag will be flown for 21 days at the Richland County Administration Building after which the veteran’s name will be engraved on a brass name plate and added to a plaque listing those veteran’s honored in the same manner already displayed on the wall in the foyer of the Richland County Administration Building.

The Joint Veterans Council of Richland County operates the flag program.
