MANSFIELD -- St. Peter’s Church announced this week it would host a "Christmas in July" dinner on Sunday, July 18, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the parking lot of St. Peter’s Church on the corner of South Mulberry and West First streets.
The event will feature a hot meal with chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, a vegetable, roll and desserts.
For kids, there will be free snow cones and children will receive a toy donated by Hedstorm Plastics in Ashland.
The parish’s Feed the Needy ministry recently expanded to two Sunday afternoons a month, offering a free hot meal, prayer, and fellowship to anyone.
“The program has been very successful since we relaunched the program in November,” said Rev. Kevin Moebius, assistant pastor at St. Peter’s.
“People still needed to eat despite the pandemic and there were not many options on Sundays. We are grateful to have dedicated parishioners and volunteers to help serve these meals to our community," Moebius said.
The parish serves the meals to anyone in the community on the first and third Sundays of every month – rain or shine. In addition to the hot meals, various personal hygiene items are also available to those who need them.
The program is open to anyone in the community.
