MANSFIELD – A suspect was arrested Tuesday in the homicide of a 90-year-old man, according to the Mansfield Police Department.
Mansfield Police Capt. Shari Robertson stated in a news release that at approximately 8:12 a.m., Mansfield Police responded to a 911 call reporting a deceased victim at 1831 Middle Bellville Road, Apartment 3.
The victim, 90-year-old Omar Brown, was located inside his residence. Further investigation determined Brown was the victim of a homicide.
"Major Crimes detectives responded to the scene and during the course of the investigation, they were able to develop suspect information," Robertson said.
This information led to the arrest of 31-year-old Cody A. Lutz, in Medina County at approximately 11:47 a.m. on Tuesday, police said. No additional information is being released at this time due to the active investigation.
"Currently, no other suspects are being sought in connection with this homicide," Robertson said. "However, the investigation is active and ongoing and we ask that anyone with information about this crime to please call Detective Ron Packer at 419-755-9729."
The apartment is inside the Morchester Villa, just off Middle Bellville Road. The complex is a senior citizens community.
Just one day earlier, a man armed with a box cutter was shot and killed by Mansfield police officers after a Taser had no affect on the suspect during a disturbance at an apartment complex as 650 Straub Road West. The two addresses are approximately 600 feet from each other.
"At this time we don't have any reason to believe (the two incidents) are connected to each other," Mansfield Police Chief Ken Coontz said.
