Suspect remains at large after a 21-year-old man was taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital early Sunday morning suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, according to Mansfield interim Police Chief Keith Porch.
Tyron Gray Jr. suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was listed in critical condition on Sunday afternoon, according to hospital spokesperson Christina Thompson.
Authorities were called to The Patio on Park Avenue at approximately 1:19 a.m. by an Ohio State Highway Patrol unit advising of shots fired at that location. The Patrol car reported gunshots coming from the location while in the area.
In a press release, Mansfield Police said upon arrival at 1349 Park Avenue West, Gray was found outside the business. He was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
Bernie Fernandez, of Ohio Paparazzi and an eyewitness to the shooting, told Richland Source a few men attempted to enter the bar.
"They weren't allowed in, and they didn't like that," Fernandez said. "They charged the door."
Security guards attempted to keep the men outside the building, but ultimately the group made their way in, he said.
"A fracas (ensued)," Fernandez described. "Chairs were thrown, table legs were broken."
Then Fernandez said he heard three shots.
"Pop. Pop. Pop. A (male customer) was shot in the head," Fernandez said. "There was blood everywhere."
Fernandez said a fight ensued in the back of the establishment.
Authorities said the large crowd quickly dispersed after authorities arrived to quell the incident.
The Major Crimes Unit is investigating the case and police said no further information will be released at this time.
Due to the large crowd and the probability of witnesses, Mansfield Police are seeking more information about this incident.
