MANSFIELD -- A man died Monday after a domestic shooting on Scholl Road in Mansfield, according to a press release from Mansfield Police Chief Keith Porch.
The 64-year-old man, whose name was not released as of Monday night, reportedly shot his 75-year-old wife numerous times at their 614 School Road residence. At approximately 3:31 p.m., she fled to a neighbor's residence, and authorities were called.
The female victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was alert and speaking with investigators at the ER, police stated. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening and she remains in the care of medical professionals.
Officers, along with Mansfield Fire/EMS personnel, responded to the area after being called.
"Officers responded to the residence at 614 Scholl Road and attempted to contact the victim’s husband with negative results," Porch stated. "A perimeter was set-up around the residence and nearby homes were evacuated for safety. The Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) attempted to coax the suspect from the home using a PA system as well as by phone.
"Officers and CNT staff at the scene were never able to establish contact the suspect and at approximately 6:45 p.m., entry was made into the residence. It was at that time the suspect was found deceased."
