MANSFIELD — The overall crime rates in Mansfield are down almost four percent since last year, according to the Mansfield Police Department. Statistics were compiled for the first quarter year over year. 

A press release issued by Mansfield Police shows a total of 579 overall Part I Offense complaints were filed during the first quarter in 2016. Those numbers represent murder, rape, robbery, assault, arson, burglary, larceny and auto theft. Police reported 603 offenses during the same period in 2015. 

 The press release also notes a 24-percent decrease in vehicle accidents.
