MANSFIELD -- The two mayoral candidates in Mansfield have agreed to debate one another less than three weeks before the election.
Republican incumbent Tim Theaker and Democratic challenger Don Bryant will answer questions about their plans for the city's future during a 90-minute discussion on Oct. 17 at The Renaissance Theatre, 138 Park Ave.
Theaker is seeking a third and final four-year term as mayor. Bryant is in his first term as an at-large member of Mansfield City Council. The election is Nov. 5.
The debate, scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m., is sponsored by Richland Source, iHeart radio, DRM Productions, Richland Young Professionals, Richland Area Chamber and Economic Development, the North End Community Improvement Collaborative and The Renaissance Theatre.
"The entire non-partisan committee from 2015 came back together to put on this important civic event, which says a lot," said Richland Source Publisher Jay Allred. "Everyone involved is donating their time and money to make this the most informative and well-attended civic event in recent history.
"The Mayor is the CEO of the city. We want the event to reflect the importance of the position and the stakes involved in the decision Mansfielders will make in November," Allred said.
General admission will be free to the event at the 1,400-seat theater, including a post-debate reception. VIP seating will be available for Richland Source and Renaissance Theater members for $20, with the proceeds donated to the Mansfield Rising project. Tickets will be available to the general public beginning September 8.
