Mansfield Board of Control OKs $5k for fire Station 3 remodel study

The city will contract with the Mansfield firm of Felty-Heinlen Architects & Planners, Inc. to examine the work at the Sunset Boulevard fire station on the city's south side.

Bishop said the same firm worked with the department in 2022 to design new individual sleeping quarters for firefighters at Station 1 on East Third Street.

The company will be paid $105 per hour, up to a maximum of $5,000 for work at the station, which houses a rescue squad and a fire engine.

The fire department project would seek a design of six to eight individual bunk rooms the same size as at the sleeping quarters at Station 1.

It also seeks a sitting room and more accessible men's and women's showers with restrooms.

The work would require a ground-floor addition, Bishop said, adding Station 3 currently only has one bathroom.

Under the contract, Felty-Heinlen staff would visit the station, tour the site and review space requirements with the fire department.

Once its work is complete, the firm will prepare an estimate of construction costs.

A construction project would require the approval of City Council.
