Ohio State Highway Patrol car

MANSFIELD -- A Loudonville man was killed on Monday afternoon following a head-on crash on Ohio 39 in Monroe Township just outside Mansfield, according to the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Aaron Carlson, of Loudonville, was taken to the hospital but died shortly after arrival, authorities stated.

The incident occurred Monday at approximately 1:50 p.m. near State Route 603.

According to the Patrol, the crash took place when a 2018 gray Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Carlson was traveling westbound on Ohio 39. Carlson traveled left of the centerline and struck an eastbound silver 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by a 17-year-old from Lucas.

Both drivers were extricated by Monroe Township Fire and EMS and then transported to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital for treatment. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Mr. Carlson succumbed to his injuries. The 17-year-old was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under further investigation at this time.
