Ohio State Highway Patrol car

WEST SALEM -- A West Salem man was injured and a horse was killed in a hit-skip buggy crash in Wayne County on Saturday night, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The OSHP is seeking information regarding the incident which occurred at approximately 10:23 p.m. on State Route 301 near milepost 1 in Chester Township (Wayne County.) The scene was in the area of Northwestern Middle/High School.

According to the Patrol, a buggy driven by Christ A. Hershberger, 20, West Salem, Ohio was struck from behind causing him to be injured. He was treated at the scene by squad personnel.

Hershberger’s horse died at the scene.

The other vehicle was described as a red or brown pick-up truck with amber lights on the roof. After striking the buggy the truck continued south on Elyria Road where it left a trail of oil. Damage to the vehicle would be described as the right front area, right front headlamp area and undercarriage damage.
