SHELBY — The Shelby Area Democratic Club recently met for the organization’s annual meeting, as required by the Ohio Revised Code and by the group’s constitution.

Members unanimously re-elected president Garland Gates, vice president Ted Clabaugh, secretary Gail Eckstein, and treasurer Carol Kimmel. All officers will serve a one-year term.

Member JC Elgin presided over the officers’ installation.

“It is indeed an honor to be entrusted with responsibility for particular service,” he told the officers. “The members of this club have indicated their trust in you to serve faithfully and fairly and with integrity as their leaders.”

During the business meeting, members reviewed the 2020 calendar and scheduled a number of events:

— Truman-Kennedy Society Breakfast – Saturday, May 16

— Anniversary Picnic and Silent Auction – Thursday, Aug. 20

— Bakeless Bake Sale – Thursday, Sept. 17

— Holiday Luncheon – Saturday, Dec. 12

Monthly meetings will continue to be on third Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Sutter-Roush Room. The group will also participate in parades, rallies, fundraisers, and other events during the upcoming campaign season.

Members also approved the club’s 2020 budget. It anticipates thousands of dollars in candidate support – both direct and indirect.

“This budget is the most ambitious one in the group’s history,” Gates said.

The next meeting of the club is scheduled for Feb. 20 at 7:00 pm in the Sutter-Roush Room, 23 E. Main St. Area Democrats and persons of goodwill are welcome to attend.
