Ohio State Highway Patrol car

MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP -- A 41-year-old Ashland man suffered life-threatening injuries late Thursday afternoon during a motorcycle-car accident, according to troopers from the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Ricky Layne, 41, was driving northbound on Township Road 1153 at 5:13 p.m. on a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He went left of center and a struck a northbound Pontiac G6, according to the patrol, near Township Road 1875.

Both Layne and a 15-year-old male passenger were thrown off the motorcycle during the accident. Layne, who troopers said was not wearing a helmet, was flown to Summa Health Systems in Akron.

The passsenger, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 16-year-old female from Ashland, was not injured, the patrol said.

Township Road 1153 was closed for approximately 90 minutes while the crash was investigated.

Other agencies assisting at the crash scene were the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Mifflin Township Fire and EMS.

The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
