MOUNT VERNON — Ron Hoeflich Jr., 40, was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Knox County Jail after a high-speed chase, according to Mount Vernon Police chief Robert Morgan.
Morgan sent out a press release on Thursday afternoon outlining the incident, which took place on Nov. 10 at approximately 2:37 p.m.
According to police, a Mount Vernon officer observed a vehicle being driven by Hoeflich in the area of Walmart. The officer had recent knowledge that Hoeflich did not have a valid Driver’s License, and also had an active warrant for his arrest through the Mount Vernon Municipal Court.
Morgan’s press release stated the officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle at this time. Hoeflich failed to stop and began fleeing eastbound on Coshocton Avenue at high speed. The officer began pursuing the vehicle eastbound on US 36, and called for assistance from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say Hoeflich continued fleeing eastbound on US 36 at a high rate of speed and continued through the village of Howard. In the area of State Route 715 and US 36, a Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy was able to successfully deploy spike strips on the fleeing vehicle. Officers were then able to get the vehicle stopped at US 36 and Austin Road.
Hoeflich was arrested and taken into custody without further incident.
Hoeflich is being held on the active warrant as well as a parole violation. Further charges as a result of the pursuit are pending, Morgan said.
