PAINT TOWNSHIP – A 16-year-old Apple Creek boy was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Friday night in Wayne County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at 8:55 p.m. on Western Road and involved a silver 2003 Toyota Matrix.

Initial investigation revealed the Toyota was eastbound on Western Road when it traveled off the left edge of the roadway and the driver over corrected to the right. The Toyota continued off the right side of the roadway striking two trees. The Toyota struck the second tree on the driver’s side and came to rest in a yard.

The 16-year-old driver, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner.

Paint Township Fire Department, Kidron Fire Department, Wayne County Coroner’s Office, and Troopers were on scene to assist.

Alcohol is not a factor in the crash. The driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
