MANSFIELD -- 'Tis the season of giving at Richland Source, and we're hoping to spread a bit of holiday cheer to all of you this month.
If you haven't heard, Richland Source was invited to be one of only 17 news organizations in the world participating in a Local News Membership Accelerator within the Facebook Journalism Project earlier this year. We're still not quite over it, either.
As part of the Accelerator, we've been doing a lot of work to revamp our membership program, including designing a slick new membership page. We've been super pumped to share our work with you, and now we're hoping you'll help us share our work with others.
Now through the end of the year, we've made Richland Source memberships giftable! You can now choose any one of our membership plans to gift to any number of people in your life. Maybe it's a budding young journalist discovering her love of writing; maybe it's a sports fan who appreciates our coverage of high school football; or maybe it's someone who has lost a little faith in the media and needs reminded of how valuable local news can be.
Our Starter, Supporter and Pillar memberships are all available as gifts, in both annual and monthly packages. As always, those who choose our Pillar membership option can also designate $300 per year of advertising credit to the non-profit of their choice.
As of a few weeks ago, we've also added a brand-new membership benefit to our Supporter and Pillar levels. Richland Source members who are Supports or Pillars can now receive 10% off any single purchase at Relax, It's Just Coffee and Main Street Books. Just make sure you identify yourself as a member at checkout. That's a benefit that lasts all year.
It gets better: If you decide to gift a Supporter or Pillar membership, you will receive a free copy of "Native Son 2," our beautiful collection of stories by Mansfield’s favorite columnist Tim McKee. We’ll send the book to you to either give away or keep for yourself.
The new edition of "Native Son" is full of brand-new stories and illustrations and is designed to be a companion to the first volume. A number of these historical stories have been shared in various McKee columns in Richland Source over the past five years.
"The words in the book came from my pen, but the stories behind the words have come from a thousand sources: old books, dusty ledgers, newspaper columns, and whole libraries of printed lore," Tim told us last year. "But far more, and way beyond all that: most of it has come from the many people through the years who have trusted me with their memories."
All Richland Source memberships include exclusive invites to member meet-ups, panels and other events; complimentary tickets to amazing performances at the Renaissance Theatre, the Mansfield Playhouse and with NEOS Dance Theatre; access to our members-only Facebook group; the ability to engage face-to-face with journalists about relevant issues in our community; and the opportunity to meet and network with other Richland Source members.
Oh, and all the #POSITIVELYLOCAL window stickers and coffee mugs you could want available at any member meet-up.
Merry Christmas from all of us at the Source. Local news is truly a community-wide effort, and we can’t do this work without you. Thanks for being the best group of readers in the world.
