Main Street Books is thrilled to announce a solo art show by Joshua Arneson in the Book Loft Gallery. Arneson’s paintings are distinctly Midwestern and evocative of our area. Join us for an opening reception on Friday, June 14 from 5-7pm.
About the artist:
Josh Arneson was born in Mansfield, Ohio. He has loved to sketch and draw ever since he was a child. He began teaching himself how to paint when he was in his early twenties, utilizing the catalogue of Bob Ross videos on the internet. Josh has always loved to take things apart, see how they work, and then put them back together. The same is true with how he taught himself to paint: start with a blank canvas, lay down the basic composition and “underpainting,” and build it up from there. Once Josh felt like he understood the traditional oil painting techniques he started experimenting with acrylic pours, abstract art, and perspective. This body of work combines Josh’s accumulated techniques. Some works rely heavily on linear and atmospheric perspective to evoke a feeling, and some rely heavily on application and texture, and some are a hearty blend of both realistic renderings and emotional mark making. Josh is inspired by the Midwestern landscape he lives in and experiences every day, so these works are meant to feel familiar.
