MANSFIELD -- Beginning the 2019-20 school year, the Mansfield Area Y will now be serving Mansfield City Schools, Lucas Community Schools, and Lexington Local families with a quality, licensed before- and after-school program in the elementary schools and community center.
“We look forward to expanding our services to Mansfield City Schools and the Lucas community," said the Y’s President/CEO, Cristen Gilbert. "We recognized a need in these districts and the administration has been more than helpful in bringing this program to fruition.
"Meeting the needs of children, strengthening families, and building strong communities has always been and remain central to the YMCA’s mission.”
The Y has been serving neighboring community families with before- and after-school care for over 35 years. The Y’s Kids Club program provides youth with a safe place to go before and after the bell.
More importantly, it helps youth realize who they are and what they can achieve, Gilbert said. The Y Kids Club program supports academic achievement, fosters health and wellness, and instills positive social-emotional skills through literacy and reading, nutrition education, character development and exercise.
With the expansion, the services offered at each location vary slightly based on community need. This program will be offered for children ages 5 to 12 before school as early as 6 a.m. and after-school until 6 p.m. Children will receive breakfast, a healthy snack, homework assistance, a positive, values-based program, a free YMCA youth membership, but most importantly, a safe, fun, caring environment.
The Y Kids Club will be available for two-hour delays, snow days, and summer enrichment.
