Although Kathy Watson and her husband Charlie Watson did not need a comfy couch, Julie McCready offered to give them a comfy chair instead.

Kathy Watson, Office Manager for Abruzzi & Burks General Dentistry and Prosthodontics, was scrolling through Richland Source one night when she saw a post about a couch giveaway.

McCready Interiors partnered with Richland Source in a Create Your Comfy Couch Sweepstakes to offer one lucky person the opportunity to design the couch of their dreams.

Thinking of her son who was looking to move out soon, Watson decided to enter the contest for him. To her great surprise, she miraculously won out of the 2,300 who entered.

“I was so surprised,” she said, a level of shock still visible in her tone.

Never having visited McCready Interiors, Watson only had her assumptions to go off of.

For 96 years, the McCready family has helped clients in the Mansfield area create beautiful homes not just with furniture but also interior design as well.

“I basically kind of thought it was one of those high-dollar stores that only people with a lot of money could go in and purchase the furniture, so we were really surprised when we went in how affordable it really is to have custom furniture made,” Watson said.

Though Watson and her husband Charlie Watson wanted to give their son a couch, they didn’t have enough room to store the couch in their home and wait for him to move out. After telling Julie McCready, co-owner of McCready Interiors, their dilemma, McCready informed them that if they didn’t need a comfy couch, a comfy chair was also an option.

Watson’s husband decided to go with an electric recliner chair.

“Recliner chairs are pretty important in rooms,” McCready said. “People like, after long days, to be able to put their feet up and relax. So they (the Watson’s) got a very nice, comfortable recliner chair and then created it in a fabric that worked well for their home and their environment.”

Watson was pleased with her service and complemented McCready Interiors for their flexibility, affordability and the fact that their furniture is custom-made right here in Ohio.

“Julie was very personable, and she asked us questions about our style, what we like, what we don’t like. She showed us a lot of different styles and a lot of different upholstery materials we could use,” Watson said.

Most of the upholstery furniture McCready Interiors sells is originally created in Norwalk, Ohio. All companies they work with are aware of being friendly not only to the environment but also not having any harmful off-gasses.

“When you purchase upholstered furniture from us, you can feel comfortable living on that furniture in your home,” McCready said. “When furniture comes from overseas, it doesn’t have to adhere to the stringent guidelines that are set forth, for instance, by the Furniture Sustainability Council in the United States of America.”

The contestants who did not win the competition will not be left empty handed. McCready Interiors will offer them special savings just for taking the time and energy to enter the contest.

“So really, everybody that entered has the opportunity to be a winner if they take advantage of the additional savings that we’ll be offering them for just taking the time to pay attention to us and who we are and what we do by entering the comfy couch contest,” McCready said.

“The majority of the time, people come to us because they want us to help them create an entire environment; an environment that’s comfortable and welcoming and inviting,” McCready said.

Now that she’s received a taste of what McCready Interiors has to offer, Watson won’t hesitate to walk through their doors the next time she’s looking to go furniture shopping.

“I told my husband when we left—and I know it sounds a little corny—that I was surprised how affordable it really was, and if we needed a good piece of custom furniture again we’d probably start there,” Watson said.
