Hidden Hollow Weekend of Giving

MANSFIELD — It’s time to pack your sleeping bag and tool belt. Hidden Hollow is calling volunteers back.

It’s time to register for the 2nd annual Weekend Of Giving. The The Peppiest Kids Group needs volunteers to swing a hammer and lead again.

It is time to sing again. It is time to breathe in the air of Hidden Hollow and relive those balmy summer days and cool summer nights by the campfire.

Weekend Of Giving Program

The weekend will include all of those activities of HHC that make it so memorable – sleeping in bunks, eating camp food and a sitting under the stars at the campfire circle. The program will grant those attending some time to relive their youth while giving back financially and using their time to make needed improvements to facilities. All participants will help HHC continue to be the greatest place on earth for future generations of campers.

The Goals Of The 2019 Weekend Of Giving

Raise funds for Friendly House and make facility and program improvements.

Increase participation from last year’s total – volunteer hours and the total number of volunteers.

Give all those attending the ability to leave part of themselves behind by volunteering their time and their sweat completing planned improvement projects.

Give those that feel the same way that we do about HHC, the greatest place on earth, the opportunity to relive a part of our youth – to have a true HHC experience with all the nostalgia that comes with sleeping in the cabins, eating Chicken Deluxe in the dining hall, and sitting around the campfire listening to Mr. Terry tell Horse Thief Jack.

Weekend Of Giving Details

Registration is now open with a May 1 deadline. Donations must be received at Friendly House by May 10.

There are seven Weekend Of Giving volunteer/donation packages ranging from $50 for a Day Pass to $300 for a full weekend package.

TPK Group dinner on Friday Night will include a silent auction, raffles, door prizes and entertainment – tickets are $50 per person.

Anyone can donate to the benefit. Sponsors are welcomed.

All donations and proceeds directly benefit Friendly House and Hidden Hollow Camp. All monetary donations are tax deductible.

Participants must be 18 to attend with a Day Pass and 21 to stay overnight with a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Pass.

Improvement Projects

The first major benefit project was the June 2018 Weekend Of Giving held at Hidden Hollow Camp. The benefit brought together former staff members and guests to volunteer their time and a personal donation to make improvements to Friendly House facilities.

Last year’s participants worked for more than 1,200 hours and the event raised nearly $50,000 in supplies, materials and cash donations for Friendly House. The improvement projects have been prioritized and organized.

These projects must be SMART – Sustainable, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time Bound. This means the right projects that are affordable and can be completed in the time allowed using the skills of the attendee’s present at the event.

The TPK Group is adamant that Friendly House and HHC do not use ANY of its own funds to support or supply the weekend. The weekend must be self-supported. All donations and proceeds will pay for all of the costs associated with the Weekend of Giving including camp rental, required staffing, food, and supplies and materials for the improvement projects. All remaining donated funds less expenses will be handed over to Friendly House and HHC at the end of the weekend.

A Message From Terry Conard, Director of Friendly House

Because of you, Friendly House continues to serve kids under pressure, kids who need safe and constructive activities, and kids whose lives benefit from steady support. Every number we generate, every child who gets a better grade card, every kid who eats a balanced meal, happens because of YOU, the people who support Friendly House.

Old favorites, like the Friendly House After School Program and Happy Hollow Day Camp could not exist without YOU. Community collaborations with Club 36, Polar Express, Raemelton Therapeutic Riding and Ohio Bird Sanctuary happen because of YOU. Projects on the horizon, such as the “Activities for Everyone” grassy play area beside the Friendly House are happening because all of YOU care enough to dream big and take action. We thank each and every one of YOU, for making Friendly House a positive place where good things happen… because of YOU.

Who Is The TPK Group?

The TPK group is a true 100 percent volunteer organization made up of former staff of Friendly House and Hidden Hollow Camp (HHC). Friendly House made a significant difference to the persons we are today. The TPK group, led by Greg Mead, Monica McDermott Eppler, Jackie McJunkin White, Teena Myers, Rhonda Pecenka, and Sibley Alexandra Nelson and joined by Chris Bottorf, Jen Brown, Dan Blank, Jeff Burkheart, Keith Johnson, and Kelsey Penenka, was formed because we all love HHC and we wanted to give back.

Many of us attended Hidden Hollow Camp as a camper for several summers and then all of us were fortunate enough to work at the greatest place on earth. We have been actively volunteering and supporting Friendly House and HHC more recently and wanted to help raise funds and volunteer hours to further support the mission of Friendly House and HHC. Help us with our mission. Join us at the Weekend Of Giving.
