SHELBY -- Pam Alt-Costello and Judy Caporini have announced the annual head shaving event to collect money to fund pediatric cancer research will be a virtual program this year.

The original plan for the local St. Baldrick’s head shaving event typically held at Legends Sports Grill and Pub was to switch things up a bit and possibly find an outdoor venue at a later date.  But COVID-19 forced a change in plans.

"We continue to pray that this pandemic loosens its grip on the world," Caporini said. "But, unfortunately, pediatric cancer still exists and kids dealing with cancer need us now more than ever."

This year-2020, St. Baldrick’s celebrates its 20th year of existence.

"You all have been so supportive of the mission of St. Baldrick’s," she said in a letter to past participants. "The world of virtual sharing has grown immensely this year and we think it would be fun to connect virtually for our head shaving event. Join us to make a difference in children’s lives."

Steps to join:

1. Please register as usual under https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/legends2020

2. Contact your supporters soliciting their donations. It will work best if your supporters donate online under your name. If that is not possible, please collect the money then you can post online.

3. Determine a date that works for you to have your head shaved. Make sure you have someone films the sacrifice! Post your video online under the local site or email to judywithstbaldricks@gmail.com and I will post for you.

4. You are welcome to let your supporters know the time your sacrifice and set up a live feed through Facebook or a Zoom meeting.

Please feel free to invite others to join you and become a St. Baldrick Hero Shavee.

"We would like to close out our event on Sept. 17 - six months after our usual date for the St. Baldrick's Head Shaving event," Caporini said. "Please choose a date between now and then to complete your head shaving and post online."
