MANSFIELD — The Salvation Army of Mansfield will hold its annual Civic Breakfast on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the Mid-Ohio Educational Services Center, 890 West Fourth Street, Mansfield.

The annual civic breakfast marks the beginning of The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kick Off and Christmas Appeal as well as highlighting the work of The Salvation Army’s services delivered to the people of Mansfield and Richland County over the past year. The theme for this year’s event is Mental Health and the Pandemic.

Dr. Blake Wagner, Jr., PhD and Mary Kay Pierce, BSN, will discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of area residents. Dr. Wagner will discuss what support systems need to be in place in the community to assist individuals coping with stress, anxiety, and depression that result from the pandemic’s impact on a person’s health, employment, and financial challenges.

Pierce will discuss how mental health problems affect the individual’s family, friends, and workplace and what assistance needs to be available to support those who are impacted by an individual’s mental health.

Dr Wagner is a clinical psychologist and president of New Directions Counseling Center and Employer Assistance Program providing counseling and wellness services to over 35,000 people in Richland County.

Mary Kay Pierce is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI of Ricland County). Mrs. Pierce is also the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Coordinator for first responders in Richland County.
