MANSFIELD -- Mansfield’s premier jazz ensemble, the Mansfield Jazz Orchestra (MJO), is set to present its spring concert at the Richland Academy of the Arts on Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m.

This will be the jazz orchestra’s third public performance and will spotlight the music of Woody Herman trombonist Vaughn Wiester and MJO’s artistic director Paul Martin. Martin is the music director at the Richland Academy and is an accomplished bassist and composer/arranger of big band jazz.

"It is Paul’s honor and privilege to share the stage with his mentor and close friend Vaughn Wiester," said Megan Williams of Richland Academy of the Arts. "Mr. Wiester was a member of the great Woody Herman Orchestra from 1974 to 76 and is an accomplished trombonist and arranger in his own right."

Wiester leads his famous Jazz Orchestra every Monday night in Columbus which features big band jazz from the 1950s and 60s and is a living encyclopedia of jazz history.  Also featured on the program will be Mansfield vocalist Kelly Knowlton.

This concert will feature many well-known songs, such as “Begin the Beguine,” “Where or When,” “Nature Boy,” “It’s Delovely,” “Spring Is Here,” and so many more.

Organizers encourage the public to come out and enjoy an evening of some of the finest big band music in mid-0hio featuring many of favorite area musicians, including Tom Reed, Eric Snyder, Scott Garlock, Lanny Gooding, Steve Berry, Brian Olsheski, Jack Schantz, and many more – maybe even a surprise or two.
