MANSFIELD -- The Renaissance Theatre will offer a new series of REN-Spiration Classroom sessions, beginning the week of Oct. 4.
The free series will feature classes formatted as a four-week series of offerings, with participants meeting once a week for four weeks. Class sessions are scheduled during times that allow families the opportunity to explore the arts while accommodating other fall activities.
The REN-spiration Classroom provides a variety of educational theatre activities designed with creativity in mind.
The series, coordinated by Renaissance Resident Teaching Artist Dauphne Maloney, expanded its offerings to the community in a series of live “classes,” originally in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Based upon the popularity of its first series of online classes, the Ren’s Education Department continued with new series of classes for the summer, and into the fall.
In addition to its latest series of online classes, additional writing prompts have been added to the Renaissance website.
Maloney said she hopes the continued expansion of online educational resources will offer opportunities to not only students, but to their teachers and parents as well.
“We’ve been so excited to provide options for creative learning as our students, teachers and educators have found it necessary to navigate restrictions brought on by the current pandemic, and as we’ve moved forward into the school year," Maloney said.
"The REN-spiration Classroom Initiative has brought together young people from throughout the north central Ohio region and beyond, as they meet for arts-focused activities through our ‘virtual classroom.’
"It’s been reaffirming to observe the ways in which students connect—even though they’re in a remote setting. And, while we offer classes for a variety of age ranges—and at different times, our writing prompts can often be the icing on the cake for those students who would like to explore the art of writing on their own," Maloney said.
REN-spiration Classroom sessions offer free classes for a variety of students of different ages and grade bands, from 3 years of age through twelfth grade.
Beginning Sept. 24, interested parents and educators may visit the Renaissance website (www.rentickets.org), to register for a variety of sessions.
Registration is free, and each session has a limited number of spots available. Information regarding any needed materials will be provided by Maloney prior to class sessions.
All the material provided can be used by educators, as well as parents and students. Material for the website will be updated, and expanded upon, regularly to include new material and resources for other activities and creative exploration.
