MANSFIELD -- The Phoenix Brewing Company will be releasing limited-edition apparel with a portion of the proceeds designated to benefit Craft X EDU.
The Phoenix, 131 N. Diamond St., will be selling the t-shirts in house starting Saturday, with online sales kicking off Aug. 8.
Craft X EDU is a non-profit working towards creating a more inclusive, equitable and just brewing industry through education and professional development opportunities.
It envisions a craft brewing community that reflects the diversity of the country’s many communities and that brings people together to create positive, sustainable change.
Craft X EDU was founded by Dr. J (J. Jackson-Beckham, Ph. D.), also the diversity ambassador for the Brewer’s Association and the founder of Craftedforall.com.
“2020 has been overwhelming with never-ending obstacles due to COVID, but it has also illuminated many underlying challenges that our community was already facing," said Carmone Macfarlane, creative and marketing head for the Phoenix.
"When we opened (the Phoenix) in 2014, we wanted to create a welcoming and inclusive craft beer community in the heart of downtown Mansfield. We have continually striven to create a community that is like craft beer-varied, diverse and composed of many different styles, cultures, backgrounds, and experiences," she said.
"And we will continue those efforts. But these tees are an opportunity to help address change, not just in our taproom, but from within our industry," Macfarlane said.
“We began discussing different organizations that we could reach out to and where we wanted to focus our efforts. We had been lucky enough to hear Dr. J speak at the Ohio Craft Brewers Conference and again during her session at the 2020 Craft Brewers Conference on the topics of diversity and inclusiveness and it just kind of clicked," she said.
The shirts were printed locally by the female-owned and operated, American Graphics Screen printing in Mansfield.
The Phoenix logo is featured on the front in a rainbow color blend and a small logo on the back in aqua. The tees are available in ladies and unisex sizing in pale yellow or black and also unisex dark gray sweatshirts.
Prices for tees begin at $20 and sweatshirts start at $40. Part of the proceeds from each shirt purchased between Saturday and through Labor Day will be donated to Craft X EDU.

About The Phoenix Brewing Company: Founded by local beer enthusiasts looking to bring a craft beer revival to Mansfield, The Phoenix Brewing Company took flight in April 2014 in a restored 1914 mortuary and funeral home near the original pre-prohibition brewery district. The partners have combined their love of craft beer and over 30 years of brewing experience to create an authentic pub experience filled with quality craft beer and live music. The beers are inspired by the history of the building itself and local legends from the Mansfield area. www.phoenixbrewing.com
