Church Requel

Church Requel is located at 2 Marion Avenue in Mansfield.

MANSFIELD -- The church at the intersection of Marion Avenue, Sturges Avenue and Park Avenue West will be hosting a free outdoor worship concert on Saturday.

Church Requel is inviting the public to a concert on its front lawn from 6 to 8 p.m. The church's worship band will perform. Free hot dogs, chips and lemonade will be available.

“We really wanted to celebrate coming out of COVID. This is an opportunity for us also to do something good for our neighborhood," said Pastor Mark Pierce. “We just really want to do something that is a total gift from us to the community.”

While attendance is free, the church will be passing around a tip jar with proceeds going to Reaching Out, a ministry serving Mansfield's homeless population.

The non-profit organization was founded by Angie Henke, who was baptized at Church Requel several years ago.

"I'm extremely grateful for Church Requel choosing Reaching Out to support with this event," Henke said. "Pastor Mark and Marykay are wonderful people."

Pierce said his church chose to support Reaching Out because of the "fantastic work" they'd seen Henke and her crew carry out in Mansfield.

“They have all the compassion I think Jesus wanted us to have for the world around us," Pierce said.

The church originally planned to borrow sound equipment, since its own system is buried within the floors, walls and roof of the building.

After the person who planned to loan the equipment got sick, the church went out and bought a second set of supplies.

Pierce says the unexpected purchase will allow the church the flexibility to have more outdoor services in the future.

“What was a challenge for us has turned into a real gift," Pierce said.

The church is also accepting donations for Reaching Out online through July 25. Community members can visit the church's giving page and select "Reaching Out" under the designation field. The church leadership will also be making a donation on behalf of the entire church.

“We really want to put our money in work right here in our community where it can really do the most good," Pierce said. “Angie is just a dynamo. She is action in motion. . . Whatever she gets she multiplies and makes it work.”

Community members can also donate to Reaching Out by mailing checks to 114 Vennum Ave, Mansfield Ohio 44903 or visiting the organization's PayPal page.
