MANSFIELD -- Healing Hearts Counseling Center will be hosting a Party in the Park event on May 15, 2021 at South Park from noon to 4 p.m.

This event is an open and free event for the community which will include games (cornhole, life-size Jenga, ladder toss, bucket toss, badminton, Kan Jam, American Ninja Warrior obstacle course, etc.), prizes, free food (hot dogs, burgers, chips, cookies, popsicles), music, line dancing, bingo, and a raffle with prizes.

Children will be encouraged to participate in a community mural, side-walk chalk, face-painting and take a picture as Cinderella or Superman.

"It's an innovative and awesome activity to bring families in our community together. Thank- you Healing Hearts!" Community member Julie Sliney said.

There will also be special guest speakers including Senator Mark Romanchuck, State Representative Marilyn John and Joe Trolian, Executive Director of the Richland County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board.

This event is family friendly and all social gathering restrictions will be adhered to. There will be spacing to maintain the distance requirements and hand sanitizers located throughout the park will be provided.

The Party in the Park will also kick-off the grand re-opening of Healing Hearts Counseling Center. We are starting back with a more personable and interactive treatment experience similar to the experience prior to the pandemic. A hybrid platform to include both live and online sessions will be provided to those struggling with substance abuse and mental health concerns.

“This past year has been a struggle for everyone.” Shared Executive Director Heidi Henderson. “We have learned how to adapt and overcome when faced with challenges. Party in the park is a celebration of resiliency and connection.”

Since the pandemic hit beginning in March, 2020; Healing Hearts Counseling Center has continued to provide services to the individuals within the community that struggle with mental health and addiction issues. Healing Hearts Counseling Center’s focus is to ensure the overall wellness of not only the clients but the staff as well.

Once the shutdown occurred, staff began to work from home and clients were receiving services through telehealth platforms to ensure that their treatment needs were continuing to be met.

“We have seen an increase in clients because everyone was feeling isolated,” stated AOD Supervisor Danielle Olney-Diehl. “Our new hybrid platform helps those coming in person, who need to do so, and still lets clients who have transportation barriers access treatment online.”

Throughout the course of the last year, there has been a substantial increase in the drug overdoses reported as well as an increase in mental health concerns throughout the pandemic and stay-at-home orders. Individuals’ mental health was impacted by isolating and not being able to have connection with other individuals, this led to an increase in suicides.

In response to the increase in fatalities, there was an increase of available online resources for those individuals struggling.

“We want to continue to reach out to those struggling in the community as well as our clients, that’s why we’ve been providing free food boxes to the community on Tuesday’s.” stated Owner Maja-Lisa Anderson.

Healing Hearts Counseling Center offers professional outpatient counseling services for such issues as addiction, substance abuse, depression, grief, trauma/PTSD and many more. Individual and group counseling is available as well as medication- assisted treatment.

Healing Hearts Counseling Center is currently accepting Medicaid insurance. If you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse or mental health concerns, call 419-528-5993 to schedule an appointment.
